PUP Professor Was Rejected And Mocked In A Public Transport Because Of His Shabby Looks.

The saying “Don’t judge the book by its cover” is not new for us and we are always reminded what this saying means. But in this world full of judgemental people, we can’t control or stop people from saying negative words or criticized us, especially on our physical appearance. On the brighter side, we should take this word as a motivation to improve and make a better version of our selves.

One Facebook user named Rozel Billones shared the story about an encounter with Prof. Madridejos of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. The professor was waiting for a ride that day but the jeepney drivers were not letting him ride. Drivers were saying that there were no more seats when in fact, there are still seats available.

“Sa stopnshop siya sumakay and ayaw siya pasakayin sa jeep. Wala na daw upuan kahit meron naman talaga. Eh kung makatawag nga ng pasahero minsan isisiksik pa kahit wala na talagang upuan,” she wrote.

The concerned netizen said that the professor sat next to her and she was so upset that no one is so kind to offer him a seat.

“Senior ako, ayaw niyo ako paupuin at pasakayin.”

One passenger even asked why they let the professor sit. She added:

“Tapos sabi pa nung isang pasahero bakit daw pinaupo pa. Kuya do you even have a heart for old people???”

The driver assumed that the professor has no plans of paying the fare and some of the passengers agreed on the driver’s claim. But the professor handed his fare just in time before he went off the vehicle.

Little did they know, the man they mocked is a professor in Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

According to the write-up entitled “The Hokage of Physics in PUP”, Mr. Ruben Madridejos (or Sir Madri to others) is a faculty member at the Department of Physical Sciences, College of Science. In 1973, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City; he graduated Cum Laude.

In 1985, Sir Madridejos flew to Berlin, Germany to finish his Master of Science in Geophysics, for free, because his study was state funded. After 10 years of studying and completing his MS in Geophysics, he went back to the Philippines in 1998 and applied as an instructor in PUP and worked in the Bureau of Mines.

As expected, Rozel’s post immediately went viral, garnered over 31,000 reactions and over 14,000 shares.

This just means that we should not judge people on the way they look because it might turn out that they’re better than us.
