Judy Ann Santos, the 40-year-old Filipina actress, recently shared how she carefully revealed to her daughter, Yohan, that she was adopted. She adopted Yohan in 2004 as she was praying to have a daughter at the age of 26. That was the peek of her career and growing romance with her soon-to-be husband Ryan Agoncillo.
She shared how she tried to explain to her daughter what adoption means when she was around 4 to 5 years old.
“Dati kasi ano siya, e, sumasama loob niya, naba-bother siya. Nalulungkot siya kaya sinasabi ko sa kanya, ‘Sweetheart, it was my choice,” she told PEP.
“I know naman at some point, I could still have a child. It’s just that I so wanted to have a child, and I prayed. I prayed for years to have a baby girl. I’m very specific with my prayers. I want to have a baby girl at 26. And I got a call a week after I turned 26, “ the actress added.
“And it was a baby girl, so that was you. ‘Even before I had a family, it was you and me only,’” Juday added.
When she told Yohan the truth, the now 14 years old teenager became confident and she wasn’t ashamed about it.
“She’s not ashamed of being an adopted daughter,” the actress said.
Juday’s mom also said that the couple is very opened in discussing to Yohan what adoption means.
“Kasi we’re very vocal naman kami ni Ry in explaining to her that adoption isn’t a bad word. ‘It’s not a bad thing at all. You have an inspiring story.’”
The couple married in a private wedding ceremony at San Juan de Nepomuceno Church in San Juan, Batangas on 28 April 2009.
