This 8-year-old student walks 6 miles to school while carrying his pet dog.
Based on the latest United Nations, as of Friday, February 8, 2019, the population of China is 1,418,091,433. This is equivalent to 18.41% of the total world population and ranks number 1 in the list of countries (and dependencies) by population.
Children who are suffering from being abandoned by their parents to work in the city have a large proportion of the Chinese population. These children are being cared for by their relatives or their parent’s friends. Consequently, many children learn how to take care of themselves at a young age.
One of these children is the 8-year-old Niu-Niu. He is a second-year student at the Central Primary School of Dasanjia Township of Beipiao and Liaoning province. He is in the custody of his grandfather. He used to live with his mother but when he was 3, he became ill with epilepsy and his mom needs to go to her parents.
His father has been working in the city for a long time and has never been back so he was left in his grandfather and grandmother’s care. Niu Niu’s grandmother had just passed away and he still couldn’t accept it so he cried every single night. Thankfully, he is with his grandfather and his pet dog who makes him happy.
Despite these hurdles, Niu Niu continues to fight and don’t take his studies lightly because of his belief that it is a ticket to get out of poverty. With his pet dog, he traveled 6 miles, from his house to the school every day. Sometimes, he even carries his pet dog on his shoulders.
He is doing this because his grandfather is working and no one will oversee his dog. His grandfather needs to work because when his grandmother was ill, they owed a lot of money for her medication and he needs to pay it. Whenever Niu Niu passes his grandmother’s grave, he never forgets to stop and pay her respect.
Niu Niu is indeed a good example of young people.
