Have you heard someone says that you need to put a coin in your freezer before leaving your house or having a long vacation? There are tons of life hacks we should consider to make our lives easier, efficient, and far from trouble. But human as we are, we tend to doubt these life hacks and just make people do it first before you.
If you are planning to leave your house for a week or planning a long vacation, you need to consider putting a coin in your freezer. While you’re on your trip or out of your house, power interruption is inevitable and we have no idea about it. As a result, the food we stored in the freezer might be defrosted or even destroyed.
The Bright Side recently shared a simple trick to make your stored food in the freezer safe and out of harm. Just put water in a cup and place it inside the freezer. When the water inside the cup got frozen, place the coin above it.
“For those of you that are evacuating from the coast, I just heard a great tip. It’s called the one cup tip. You put a cup of water in your freezer. Freeze it solid and then put a quarter on top of it and leave it in your freezer. That way when you come back after you’ve been evacuated you can tell if your food went completely bad and just refroze or if it stayed frozen while you were gone.”
“If the quarter has fallen to the bottom of the cup that means all the food defrosted and you should throw it out. But if the quarter is either on the top or in the middle of the cup then your food may still be ok. It would also be a great idea to leave this in your freezer all the time and if you lose power for any reason you will have this tip to fall back on.”
“If you don’t feel good about your food, just throw it out. The main thing is for all to be safe. Please SHARE this on your page. “
It is still important that you should check the food yourself if it is still good or bad.
