This OFW in HK did an “Ipon Challenge” and was able to save Php140,000 for six months.

Recently, one Ilonga OFW in Hong Kong went viral on social media after trying the “Ipon Challenge” and was able to save Php 140,000 pesos within six months.

She is Jalyn Navio, a 39 -year-old Ilongga OFW in Hong Kong. After attending the Financial Literacy Seminar of CARD Hong Kong Foundation, the nursing graduate was inspired to save money. She started working in Hong Kong in 2002 without the knowledge of her parents at first. She is formerly married to a seaman but their marriage didn’t last.

On the Facebook post of Jennifer Palomo Debaja, she revealed that Jalyn was able to save $21,760 or Php 140,000 pesos within six months. Using a big plastic bottle, she put all her saving inside. Jalyn receives HK$ 8,200 or Php 54,000 as monthly salary. She sends the Php10,000 to her relative’s educational allowance every month.

Jalyn used to be fond of shopping and treating her friends in restaurants back in the day. But upon realizing her future and when her retirement comes, she changes herself especially in terms of finances. According to Jalyn, she will continue doing the “Ipon Challenge” by saving not just $20 but also $50.

Many netizens got inspired with her story and expressed their interest of doing the same challenge. Though some netizens said that her salary is way realistic for an OFW in Hong Kong, some admired her for determination for saving such huge money.

Saving is really a necessity and everyone should practice it.
