For Filipinos, family is family. Despite distance, misunderstanding, or anything that may come and test them, you can always count on family and they’re always the safest place.
On the Christmas campaign of ABS-CBN’s “Family is Love” features a mother of three soldiers wishes to see her sons in her 51st birthday celebration. But because of their nature of work, that’s impossible.
On the first part of the video, actor Coco Martin said:
“Pinaglayo man sila ng serbisyo pero pinaglalapit sila ng pagmamahal sa isa’t-isa. Samahan natin sila sa kanilang bagong misyon para sa pamilya.”
[Their service to the nation may have separated them but love brings them closer to each other. Let us join them in their new mission for their family.]
The mother of three soldiers, Milvina Garcia, said shared that many of her son’s experiences made her a fighter and she always surrenders them to God in prayer. Her husband Gerardo expressed how proud he is as their father, that makes him a successful father too.
Nanay Milvina’s sons are John Melvin, the eldest, a pilot in the Philippine Air Force, and Gerson and George Bernard, both working in the Philippine Army.
“Masarap sa pakiramdam kapag nagsisilbi ka para sa bayan lalo kapag nakikita mo ‘yung mukha ng mga bata, mga tao doon sa area — nakangiti. Masasabi mo sa sarili mo na ginagawa ko it para sa mga taong ito,” George Bernard said.
[It feels good inside when you’re serving the nation especially when you see the smiling faces of children, the people in the area. You can tell yourself, “I am doing this for them.”]
As you can see in the video, the mother was shocked upon seeing his sons and were moved to tear. She was greatly surprised, along with Tatay Gerardo who was also in tears.
You heard Nanay Milvina wishes that she wanted to see her sons on her 51st birthday but because of their work, she doesn’t expect it to happen. She also shared that there were instances that her sons planned to go home but it was always hindered.
But to her surprise, her sons went home to celebrate her 51st birthday.
