Many eyebrows were raised after Fr. Joel Silagpo decided to sell fish to be able to raise money for the construction of the church in Basilan. He decided to do that because he wanted a church for the Christian believers in the midst of the Muslim community. KAMI learned that last March 2017, the story of Fr. Silagpo selling fish went viral.
According to Filipino Scoop, the inspiring priest sells fish every day to raise money and build the P9 million worth church.
This month, the church, San Antonio de Padua Parish Church, was finally built and was inaugurated last May 5. In fact, in March 2017, Fr. Silagpo only started with P100,000 because this is the only fund the church has.
Because of his faith in God and with the help of kind-hearted people, he succeeded in building the church. Fr. Silagpo said:
“If Christ can sacrifice for His people, then, I am just doing my share to my community.”
Many netizens were inspired by what he did and ended up recognizing him for his effort in building the church and also his heart to build a church for the Christian believers.
